NY Real Estate Broker License Requirements

To qualify for a New York real estate broker license, the Department of State requires that you:

  • Are at least 20 years old
  • Have at least two years of experience as a licensed salesperson, or equivalent real estate experience, with enough qualifying experience points
  • Complete the 75-hour NYS-approved broker qualifying course (152 total hours of education, including your salesperson course)
  • Pass the school's broker course final exam
  • Pass the New York State real estate broker exam
  • Submit your broker license application through eAccessNY

NY Broker License Questions

How long does it take to get a broker license in New York?

It depends on how quickly you complete the 75-hour course and schedule your exams. Many motivated agents finish the whole process in just a few months. You have one year from purchase to complete the course and pass the school exam.

How do I know if I have enough experience?

New York uses a points system. Download the broker application and go to page 8 to total your experience points. If you're unsure, call or text us at 518-855-3680 and we'll walk through it with you.

What if I don't pass the state broker exam?

If you complete our broker course and don't pass the New York State exam, you can repeat the course at no cost.

Does the broker course count toward continuing education?

Yes, it can count toward your 22.5 hours of CE, but it does not include New York's required CE topics. For unlimited CE plus 50% off broker courses, consider becoming a Manfred Member.
